the triumphant return

I am back.
I have returned safely from the my adventures in california and nevada.
I have made several discoveries:
1) I love San Francisco.
2) I would love to work for Chronicle Books
3) I owe MOMs $200 and they owe me a sugar skull
4) I hate the people in Las Vegas
5) Never ever return to Vegas



Back into work mode now
Working on mock CD artwork.
I'm looking at old school tattoo designs... victorian kids toys... and the work of william morris for inspiration

just got back from my assessment from the semester
went pretty much as i expected.


i need to do more observational work. i need to drill that into my head.. and stop just conjuring things from the air..
which is fun.. but i need more grounding. more of a base to have more of a direction.

off to san francisco / vegas in a week today
cant wait
got some medium format film ready for my holga. a new sketchbook. new pens. magic. pure magic.

need to find some of my work that is up at uni...should really keep track of that
gonna be difficult presenting my work. in a physical sense... as 95% of it is in sketchbooks... ah well
working on a drawing at the moment.. not sure where to go with it... have a looksie..

had a meeting about the trip to the states earlier.
got me pretty psyched... we arrive in san francisco at 14.00 on thursday 7th february....
then we hit las vegas on the monday.. staying at a casino. going to be rad.

im pretty ill at the moment. which sucks with trying to sort out things for the trip.. and get my portfoilo together for the assessment next week.
finding it very hard.
but done a bit of work im pretty chuffed with lately.. i shall post up here soon.

santa clause is coming to town

back home in didcot town now
and the work.. is churning out slow
for this flim project, i am going to make soft toy action figures (i hope...)
of the characters from run lola run
but, still dwelling on the designs
i keep hopping back and fourth between over abstract characters, to realistic characters.. and ra ra ra
angela is right, my work is far too character based
but i already have the context for the work.. i am just producing a consumable object for potential sale

this is not the most inspiring weather today
however, got some good music on.. been teaching myself slide guitar recently. so listening to some blues
and some music by a guy named andy mckee
pretty amazing

so far for this 'FILM' project, (where, for those of you who don't know, we have to produce a piece(s) of work related to one of the films shown at the film club.)
i have chosen run,lola,run
as it is only a short project i have given myself a set of rules to work by, in order to produce something more specific, and not faff around with ideas when i need to be churning out work.
focusing on the way lola chants her 'wait' mantra in her head whilst running to manni

i have also had the ideas of editing a german mark, to put her face on, making it look like a limited edition flim coupon or whatever
but this seems a bit safe and boring to be quite honest
so i have stuck to looking at polish film posters... keeping it very illustrative. bold lines and colours. almost abstract.
i will try and get some pictures up on here soon
